How to get your business recommended by ChatGPT

By Andrej Evtimov

ChatGPT recommends businesses it can read, understand and verify. Make your site readable by AI crawlers, state clearly what you sell and to whom, publish pages that directly answer your buyers' questions, and get mentioned on the sites AI already cites.

1. Let AI read your site

Check robots.txt does not block OpenAI's crawlers (GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User). If they can't fetch your pages, nothing else matters.

Add an llms.txt file at your site root: a short markdown summary of who you are and links to your most useful pages.

2. Say plainly what you do

AI answers are built from text it can quote. Your homepage should state, in one sentence, what you sell, who it's for and where you operate.

Add structured data (Organization, Product or Service, FAQPage) so the facts are machine-readable, and keep it identical to the visible text.

3. Answer the questions buyers ask

Buyers ask assistants full questions: "best invoicing tool for freelancers in Germany". Publish one page per important question, open with the direct answer, then the detail.

Cite sources for every number and price. Pages that are easy to quote are easier to recommend.

4. Earn trust signals

Show who is behind the business on an about or author page. Get listed in the directories, comparison pages and communities that AI search already shows for your questions.

5. Measure every week

Ask the same buyer questions every week and record who gets named. Progress shows up as first mentions, then better positions — not overnight.
